A personal message from Andy Shuter


Over the last few years, many people in the UK Vehicle Broker sector have been crying out for a dedicated event just for them.

Therefore, I think it is high time that this amazing bunch of people and their associates are given an opportunity to gather again!

This is when the inaugural F&I Summit will take place at Jurys Hinckley Island Hotel. 


UK Vehicle Finance Brokers provide an extremely valuable service to dealers and customers alike. 

Brokers today not only provide a portfolio of cutting edge finance solutions, but are truly valued as strategic business partners.

I predicted many years ago that motor finance would become increasingly compliant and that the role of the brokers would become more and more vital. 


This is without doubt the case today! 


For those of you who have attended my past events you know exactly what to expect! 

Serious, topical and relevant content during the day, followed by some fun and entertainment in the evening, with of course the chance for this unique group of people to show just how generous they are when it comes to raising a few quid for folks who are not so fortunate as themselves.


Last Christmas I was one of the hardy souls who braved the long flight and blooming jet lag to fulfill a boyhood dream of mine - to see England play in The Ashes. A huge bonus was also the fact that my 10 year old lad Daniel was able to sweet-talk his headmistress to let him come with me!

Predictably, we got thrashed but one of the many highlights of the trip was meeting Australian Cricket legend GLENN McGRATH

For those of you who don’t know, Glenn lost his wife Jane to breast cancer in 2008 after an 11 year long battle with the disease. Listening to him speak of this was both heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time.

Glenn's dignity and strength was unreal but it made me realise just how many people are affected when such a tragedy strikes and this is the reason why I am supporting breast cancer care at this year’s summit.

An overview of the event

Starting at in the morning, we will bring you an eclectic mix of topical speakers and presentations that not only tackle the day to day issues of our sector, but also will deal with wider issues such as the economy and of course that delightful topic - Brexit! There will also be trade stands from suppliers for you to visit along with ample opportunities to network


In the evening, we will be holding a “Pink tie” dinner in aid of BREAST CANCER CARE (www.breastcancercare.org.uk) with entertainment provided by the one and only JEFF WINTER and his special guest DEAN WINDASS

BBC Deputy Political Editor - John Pienaar

John Pienaar is the BBC’s Deputy Political Editor and presenter of the  weekly Westminster round-up Pienaar’s Politics on Radio 5 Live. A  seasoned reporter, he sees his job as beating a path through the forest  of Government spin. Ever since his original, often controversial  parliamentary sketch for the Independent, he has acted as tour guide and  translator of goings-on in the Westminster village.
 

John  originally trained at South London Press, covering whatever was  occurring on his doorstep – be it street crime, domestic violence, sex,  drugs or rock’n’roll. He then became an Old Bailey Correspondent and  even wrote an angling column (without ever having held a fishing rod).
 

 Instantly recognisable to television news audiences, John has spent  hundreds of hours standing in the rain outside 10 Downing Street. He was  also invited to take part in a celebrity boxing show, only for it to be  cancelled for fear that someone might get hurt. Picking up this theme  in his after dinner speech, John imagines what would happen if the  public were to vote for MPs by means of a reality TV show.


We are thrilled to secure John as our Headline spaker, especially as our event will be so close to Brexit!

Daytime Conference MC - Stephen J Whitton

Stephen J Witton, is a veteran of the automotive sector having worked across retail, manufacturers and F&I, both in the UK and internationally for over 30 years. He will take charge of proceedings for the daytime conference at this years event, working alongside organiser Andy Shuter   

Stephen said, I’m absolutely delighted to be MC for this prestigious and important event. To be asked to MC, is both an honour and a privilege and I am eagerly anticipating working with a fantastic line-up of speakers and meeting lots of old and new friends from across the industry - it’s going to be a great event”.

Opening Address - Karl Werner, Motonovo

A regular speaker on the development of point of sale finance, Karl is a recognised future-thinker, passionate about helping partners benefit from the digitisation, new buying habits and regulatory changes that are re-shaping the finance industry.

Karl joined the motor industry early in his career, working in car sales at Camden Motors shortly after graduating with his second degree in Film Production & Media, having already gained a BA in Politics. He went on to spend six years with Lombard, before joining MotoNovo Finance in 2003.

Karl was quickly appointed Divisional CEO in May 2016 and has more recently been appointed Deputy CEO of MotoNovo Finance.

Nathan leads the captive finance consulting practice at Deloitte UK with almost ten years of international experience in customer, strategy and digital across a number of OEMS and captives.  Nathan has also spent five years with a leading UK captive finance business as Director of Digital & Innovation, leading the response to changing retailer and sales models and electric / autonomous vehicles.

A leading global consultancy, Deloitte works with over 90% of the FSI in the Fortune 500 and 25% of the Big Wheels top finance companies on topics including growth, efficiency and compliance.

Steve Faulkner Entrepreneur Automotive & Banking

A well-known and larger than life character from across the UK Motor Industry, Steve Faulkner decided to enter semi-retirement in 2017 having completed 10 years in Dubai with a privately owned conglomerate Al Futtaim. 


Boasting sales of c250,000 vehicles per annum, the business had 220 Automotive & Retail brands operating in 38 countries. As MD of Commercial & Banking he was responsible for the Groups consumer financing activities, M&A, and business development.


Prior to this, Steve held the position of Customer Retention & Remarketing Director for General Electric across 32 countries, forming part of his 17 year career with the US Consumer Finance arm GE Capital.


Having left Secondary Education, he went straight into manufacturing within the plastics & pottery industry both here in the UK & in Canada, before entering the motor industry as an F&I manager for Holdcroft Motor Group Staffs. Later, he joined Woodchester Finance (GE) as a finance rep.


A self-confessed and frustrated Liverpool supporter he now  lives in South Cheshire, and is still trying to find excuses not to spend his days cutting the grass and walking the dog!

Chris Macheca, President & Chief Operating Officer of Passtime GPS

Flying in all the way from Colorado USA is Chris Macheca, President & C.O.O of Passtime GPS, a global provider of GPS Tracking / Automated Collection Technologies (ACT's).


 Deemed as controversial to some, "Black Box" technology has become very popular in the last few years with many finance companies and their partners benefitting from it.


 Chris completed his undergraduate studies at Regis University in 1997 with a degree in business administration while captaining the lacrosse team. He joined PassTime in 1998 and has been an integral part of the success ever since. During his career at PassTime, Chris has been involved in all areas including sales, development, IT, operations, and manufacturing and has managed all operations since 2003. He received his MBA in Operations from Regis University in 2007 graduating with honors.


The F&I Summit is delighted that Chris is making such a long journey to support our maiden event, Let's hope the jet lag doesn't kick in too early!

Nick Horton - Motivational Speaker

The words sales and marketing are intrinsically linked.  Quite simply, one can’t live without the other.  In most cases, this also involves two departments (and possibly an agency) working together to win sales that were kick started by a marketing campaign. 

Nick Horton does this stuff without departments and agencies and helps his clients win multi-million pound contracts.

He is best known for using a Rubik’s Cube to spearhead a marketing campaign that led to his client landing the largest prospect in their industry.  It became a multi million pound deal that he led from the marketing concept to the first order being placed.

Nick hasn’t been to the Universtity of Sales and Marketing, he has learnt by spending 15 years on the corporate battlefield.  

During his speech, he recalls with startling clarity the defining moments that led to two multi-million pound contracts.  He shares the exact marketing strategies, presentation structures and the audacious way that he closed one of the deals with a german car manufacturer.

Graham Hill, Founder of GHA FINANCE

  

Graham has been an Asset and Vehicle Finance Broker for over 35 years and was the Founder/Chairman of The British Lease Brokers Association More recently he spent 15 years on the board of National Association of Commercial Finance Brokers (NACFB) and 2 years as Chairman. Today, he is the most quoted 'expert' on vehicle finance in the UK and advisor to BBC's Rip Off Britain and Channel 4's Dispatches programme. He also regularly features on Radio 4's Money Box. He has worked alongside the police in cases of asset and vehicle finance fraud and was the winner of the F&I Innovation Award 2015 for his Lease Evaluation & Comparison App Graham writes a monthly 2 page spread for Business Money and is author of a 200 page guide revealing PCP scams and scandals. His top selling book - Car Finance - A Simple Guide reached no 1 on Amazon out of 7,000 titles and his new book is nearing completion: Over 40 Ways To Finance A Vehicle.

Steve Reynolds, Head of Sales AA Warranty

If there is one guy who doesn’t need an intro then this is him! Along with many others in the South Yorkshire area, job prospects in the 1980s were pretty grim. Heavy industry (mainly coal and steel) was suffering massively and countless numbers of folks similar to Steve ended up in jobs completely alien to them. In 1985 (B plate) Steve started as an apprentice salesperson with DC Cook. He gradually worked his way up the ladder, holding pretty much every job in the business. But it was always F&I that he excelled in. In 2005 Steve was appointed Group F&I manager at Stoneacre and helped a relatively small dealer group through massive a massive growth plan over a 10 year period – most significantly through 3 major compliance changes. More recently, Steve's career has seen him "pounding the streets" as National Sales Manager at Marsh Finance and now AA Warranty. He has many accolades to his name and was awarded the prestigious Annual F&I Achievement Award in 2015.

Andy Tong, Managing Director, The Promotive Group

Andy Tong has delivered exceptional results in all his Motor Industry selling roles. From sales and F&I Business Management, through sales management and training roles, to operational board experience with a major UK Bank owned motor finance company, and ultimately industry leading motor dealer groups.   His unique style is renowned for removing hurdles to profit, troubleshooting underperformance and finding commercial opportunities within compliance and regulation.  Along with a passion for getting the basics right, he formed ProFIT Training (Professional Finance and Insurance Training  Ltd )  in December 2004 and is still going strong today !  With an amazing 35 years industry experience I am delighted to welcome Andy to the panel!

Robert Brackup, Senior Partner at Williams & Co Solicitors

Robert, who qualified as a solicitor thirty years ago, has  throughout his career dealt with a wide variety of disputed cases  gaining a good reputation as an imaginative and pragmatic lawyer.

 

As head of the dispute resolution team at Chadwick Lawrence, Robert had responsibility  for in excess of 20 fee earners as well as maintaining a significant  case load. In 2004 he was elected to serve as a member of the firm’s  management team a position which he held for over 10 years during which  the firm saw steady growth but also the impact of the 2008 recession  giving Robert insight and experience into the commercial aspects of  running a business.

  

Robert maintains a strong client base which includes nationally  known retail outlets and notable sporting institutions and is regularly  instructed by fellow professionals including solicitors who have  regulatory and or compliance issues.

Dr Mark Spink "The Doc", Founder of Codebay

Dr Mark Spink  (or more commonly know to us all as "The Doc") was the co-founder 14 years ago of Dealtrak. As Technical Director and later CTO Mark developed and later managed a large team to produce a high availability platform utilising an elastic cluster of application servers, message brokers, and databases in multiple AWS regions, that currently sends over 4 million proposals a year to over 300 Lenders, Insurers and other consumers.
